Soybeans: From Steam to Frozen

Edamame beans are also referred to as green soybeans, or moo hair in Japan. Although the Oxford English Dictionary has only recently included the term edamame moo hair, it was a staple food for many generations. Nowadays, as part of healthy eating, consuming edamame (or moo hair) is not a foreign concept. In fact, it can be considered a delicacy of daily life in a number of Asian countries.


Edamame is a type of soybean that is slightly yellow in color. Jama dame is a common name for a reddish colored bean after it has reached maturity. Edamame is commonly used as an accompaniment in many Asian countries. Typically, it is served with Japanese rice this dish is easy to prepare and nutritious, too. In Japan, edamame is served with Japanese miso soup called mochi.

While there are various varieties of soybeans available the most widely used kind is edamame beans that are found all over Asia. There are a variety of paddies where edamame beans can be grown. The majority of soybeans that are grown in Japan are found in the hibiscus paddies. These soybeans are round low-growing soybeans that can be used for high-nutrition consumption.

Black-eyed Peas are another kind of soybean that is utilized as an everyday food. They are naturally green in color. They are also naturally green in color however, black-eyed peas have had their outer membranes removed, so that the green pods are now on the surface of the edible portion of the bean. Even in Europe, people eat soybeans for their protein, though they do consume beef.

There are two types of soybeans: textured and bran-fomented. Textured soybeans can be cooked while still in their shells. This can involve soaking unseasoned dry beans and then grinding them into a fine powder to cook. Bran-fomented soybeans aren’t cooked however they are being soaked and fermented into a thick liquid. This liquid can be used the same manner as soy milk. It is high in fiber and holds more nutrients than plain soybeans. Sprouted soybeans are rich in protein, particularly the casein variety.

Green soybeans are among the most popular legumes in America. They can be found at health food stores, co-ops, stores, and even online. This versatile vegetable can be cooked in many ways, including boiling or steaming, sauteing or grilling. Green beans can be eaten fresh but canned or steamed green beans are the preferred choice due to their higher nutritional value. A food item that is great is a tossed salad with lime juice and yogurt or steamed green beans with a slice of cucumber.

Fried green soybeans are excellent for baking. The seeds can be used in stir fries. You can also sprinkle them on cakes and bake them into pie forms. You can also freeze your soybeans, and then defrost them whenever you require them. You can use frozen soybeans to substitute yogurt in spreads and dips, and as a substitute for milk in stews and soups. To enjoy the unique flavors of fresh soybeans, whenever you can, store them in a sealed container in your refrigerator, but don’t keep longer than two or three weeks.
