Soon Schools in Kerala will have Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines
As of now, when only ~12% women in India have access to sanitary napkins and the word “periods” is still a taboo, this gives us a ray of hope.
If you are a girl, your periods must have given a surprise visit atleast once in your life! This is a big step forward wherein girls at school can cope with such emergency incidents without being embarrassed about it. A proper education about periods is also necessary, which this step might bring with itself.
Kerala will be the first state in India to mandate sanitary napkin vending machines in higher secondary schools.
Let us hope that this step drives more girls to get enrolled in schools, especially those who hail from rural areas.
Other states like Bihar, where the female literacy rate is only 51.5%, should take inspiration and start installing these machines in schools.
